October 3, 2008

Well, I have been doing rescue for many years, but for the past 3 months or so I am starting to question if I still want to do this anymore.

I am (was) on some message boards in the Atlanta area, I have noticed a lot of pettiness and judgemental behavior towards people who have lost their homes and need to find placement for their pets. In one particular post, a woman lost her home and I guess she thought they were working out a resolution to save her home, but at the last minute she was forced out and was scrambling to find a home the same day she being evicted. The woman who posted an emergency adoption/foster for the ladies pets who extremely judgemental and cruel. I pointed out to her that she was being judgemental and unfair and did not know the entire story or circumstances as they only received the information 3rd hand , then she and all of her friends starting attacking me verbally , sending rude emails and were very condescending. It truly hurt my feelings to the point I question why I do what I do.

Obviously those women have never lost a home or a job!
I see their point, we are all over stressed, too many animals and not enough homes and they should have had more of a notice- but life happens and we shouldn't judge or attack people who have a different point of view.

After that, I question if what I am doing is making a difference at all. I am confident I will work through this and not let those "women" take my joy and love of rescuing and helping animals away.

I'm so sorry that you had this happen. Similar attacks have happened to me in the past as well. That is one MAJOR reason why I don't like to post much on "human opinion" boards!

What gets me back in the saddle is to remember WHY I do what I do. I work for the ANIMALS ... NOT the PEOPLE!!! ;o) Check out my blog later .... we have 2 new babies ... again! LOL!

Well, you've come to da right place...da cat blogosphere is where yoo need to be. Mom don't post on any human boards any more either. Some humans can be more than slightly judgmental and cruel. Most of da beans in da CB work fur aminals and dey try really hard not to judge.

CCL,

Stay here, and enjoy the happiness we all share, with our furry family members and our "furiends" here on CB. As you, I tend to think that animals are much better than humans at not judging!

I got the name creepy cat lady from I guy I used to work with- I invited him to my cat's birthday party and he said that was "creepy" I threw parties for my cats, then he started calling me the creepy cat lady and my friends started calling me that and it has stuck for the past 8-9 years
